How to choose a private pool villa on ECR: 12 questions to ask before you book

Choosing among the many villas on ECR is easier with a short list of questions. Ask these 12 before you pay a deposit, and you will know whether a villa really fits your group, your budget and your plans. 1. Is the whole villa yours?

Some places rent rooms or share a pool between several groups. Ask whether the villa is rented whole to one group.

At Villa De Aqua: every villa is rented whole to one group, with its own private pool.

2. How many people does it really sleep?

"Large group" can mean ten beds and a pile of mattresses. Ask for the standard capacity and the maximum with extra beds.

3. Is the price per villa or per person, and what is extra?

Ask for one figure that includes the villa, extra beds, food and any packages.

At Villa De Aqua: rates are per villa and published on our rates page. At the time of writing, weekday nights start at ₹15,000. Food, extra beds, pets and packages are billed separately, and the team confirms the final price.

4. When does the weekend rate apply?

Some villas charge weekend rates for Friday and Sunday too.

At Villa De Aqua: the weekend rate applies to Saturday check-ins only.

5. Can you book it for just the day?

If nobody needs to stay over, a day booking can save money.

6. How deep is the pool, and is it supervised?

This matters most with children or non-swimmers.

At Villa De Aqua: main pools are 4.5 ft deep, and kids' pools, where a villa has one, are 2.5 ft. Pools are unsupervised, so children swim with an adult, and there is no diving.

7. Is the property secure?

Ask about walls, gates, cameras and who is on site at night.

At Villa De Aqua: every villa is walled and gated, with CCTV, a first-aid kit and a caretaker on the premises.

8. Who cooks?

Self-catering, a cook, or outside caterers? Ask how food is priced.

9. What are the check-in times and house rules?

Late check-ins and noise limits can change your plans.

At Villa De Aqua: check-in is 2 PM and check-out 12 noon, with early or late times on request, subject to availability. Quiet hours run from 11 PM to 7 AM. DJ setups and fireworks need written approval.

10. Can you bring your dog?

Many villas say no, or only allow pets in some areas.

11. How far is it from the city and the beach?

ECR runs a long way south from Chennai, so "on ECR" can mean a short drive or a long one.

At Villa De Aqua: Elite in Muttukadu is about 70 minutes from central Chennai, near Muttukadu Boat House and the Blue Flag beach at Kovalam. The two Kuvathur villas are about 2 hours from central Chennai and about 800 m from the beach, near Mahabalipuram.

12. Can you get a GST invoice?
