Villa De Aqua
The ECR corridor
East Coast Road — ECR — is the stretch that runs south from Chennai along the Bay of Bengal, past the backwaters and the temples of Mahabalipuram, toward Pondicherry. It is not a resort strip. It is a sequence of fishing villages, coconut groves, and private houses set back from the water.
Villa De Aqua sits in that belt. Muttukadu, where the Buckingham Canal meets the sea and the weekend traffic thins. Kuvathur, further down, quieter still. Uthandi, closer to the city, for guests who want the coast without the long drive. Each pocket has a different tempo; the standard of the house does not change.
The point of ECR as a short escape is distance, not spectacle. Two hours from central Chennai you can be in a walled garden with a private pool, a chef on site, and no shared amenities. The shore and Mahabalipuram are a drive, not a day-trip logistics exercise. You come for a birthday, a family pause, or a working retreat that actually ends.
