Private pool villa or resort on ECR and Mahabalipuram: which is better for groups?

ECR and Mahabalipuram have plenty of resorts. For groups, a private pool villa is often the better choice. Here is an honest comparison.

Privacy

At a resort, you share the pool, the restaurant and the lawns with other guests. A private villa is rented to one group: the pool, garden and house are yours alone, with walled and gated grounds.

Space for everyone together

Resorts split a group across rooms and corridors. In a villa, everyone is under one roof, with a living room, a dining table big enough for the whole group and a lawn for games.

Price for a group

A resort charges per room. A villa charges for the whole house. For 12 to 18 guests, a villa often costs less than the equivalent number of resort rooms. See our full price list.

Food

Resorts have menus and fixed restaurant hours. At our villas, a caretaker-cum-chef cooks home-style meals on request, and BBQ nights or buffets can be arranged.

When a resort wins

If you want a spa, a gym, room service or a large event hall, a resort is the better fit. For two people on a short stay, a resort room is usually cheaper.
